Sunday roast in Weymouth
Every roast we could stand behind, in Weymouth, on Portland and in the villages round about. Filter it by whether you want a carvery counter or a plate out of the kitchen, and by how far you are willing to drive. Every card says how we know, so you can judge it yourself.
Carvery or plated: what you are choosing between
A counter. You take a plate up, somebody carves your meat in front of you and you help yourself to the vegetables, normally as much as you can fit on. Better value if you are hungry, better for a big family, and you can see what you are getting before you commit.
Cooked in the kitchen and carried out to your table. The portion is fixed, so it costs what it costs, but it usually arrives hotter, the meat is often better cooked and nobody has to queue. Better for a proper sit down.
One more thing worth knowing. Some places carve at the counter, and some carve in the kitchen and bring it out to you, and both of them call it a carvery. If it matters to you, ring and ask. It takes ten seconds and they will not mind.
How we decide which is which. Carvery is only ever used where the pub says the word itself on its own website. Everywhere else we have put plated, because a carvery is a selling point and a pub that has one shouts about it. That second one is our judgement rather than their words, so every card prints the reason underneath and you can see exactly what it rests on.

These came up in the town's own poll or in the search, and several of them plainly do a very good roast. But their own website says nothing, or would not let us read it, and this page does not print a time or a price it cannot point at. Ring them.
