Nothe Gardens and Fort loop

A short loop round the headland between the harbour and the bay, with the fort at the tip.

HillySteps or rough ground

About 2.7 km round the Nothe headland: up from the harbour, through the Victorian gardens, round the fort and back along the lower paths above Newton's Cove. The views take in the harbour, the bay and Portland. The lower paths are steep in places with steps, so stick to the upper paths for the easier version.

Getting there

Walk from the town side over the town bridge, or the ferry across the harbour in summer. Parking on Barrack Road is limited.

Before you go: The lower paths have steep bits and steps. The upper loop is gentle and still gets the view.
